Bringing up Mommy

Moms are not magical creatures

We are not what 'stuff of legends' are made of.

We don't carry the globe on our backs

Nor are we the force that keeps the heavens up in its place.

We are just the Gulliver in your wonder world. All that we do may seem to inspire such wide eyed excitement. But trust us, we are just being normal. This is what moms do.

It's just caffeine that keeps us going. Or something stronger, like love. We can't get by without that cuppa..or a squishy hugga.

We walk the tight rope, balancing well to not fall off onto this side or that, mundane or fantasy. Scribbles on the perfectly white wall or coloured strokes of genius on a stretched canvas, crumbs on the floor or the adventures of the brave gingerbread man into the abyss of tummyworld, strewn toys all over the floor or a peek into your wonderland. That's definitely more house work, the unwelcome (but needed) workout to the body mind and soul.

We admit we don't know everything. Neither did our moms know. Nor did their moms. We are gonna be clueless. Coz knowing everything wasn't in the job description. So bear with us. It's intimidating enough that your big eyes are following and taking in every step we take..right and even the wrong. Given an option, we would have loved to do life perfectly and then show it off to you coz your smile would be our laurels. But then 'perfect' might rule out even your own existence. That wouldn't be something that we would want to live.

What you learn from us are what you should do and also what you shouldn't, how or how not, why or why not. The wrongs and the right, the sugar and the spice. Because really..we don't know everything.

We don't want to know everything about you. Your secrets, your mischief, your experiments, they are yours to keep. We don't want to know everything. But we push to know..coz we want to know you're safe. That's why we push to know. We want to know you're safe..that there's nothing hurting you. In your body..or your heart. Or to you. Your tears. Your silence. Your biting your lip, holding back and holding up.

It's devastating so we rush to help. We want to fight your fights. As uncivilised it might look, we wish to pick up those stones hurled at you and make a missile out of it and bomb the very face that made you cry, or stifle a cry. We don't mind. But if you do, we'll back off. Coz seeing you grow and take on your own battles give us peace too.

In each day of seeing you grow, we admit it's not you we are bringing up. It's us. We are bringing up mommy.
